Select an Ecosystem

A lush, overgrown micro-jungle inspired by the Daintree Rainforest. Expect dense foliage, mossy driftwood, and climbing plants under a constant veil of humidity. These enclosures thrive on layered canopies, wet soil, and mist-laden air, mimicking one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth.
Ideal Species: Tree Frogs (Litoria sp.), Boyd’s Forest Dragons (Lophosaurus boydii), Spiny Leaf Insects (Extatosoma tiaratum)

A dry, rugged landscape made for reptiles that seek refuge among sun-scorched rocks and tufts of hardy grasses. This habitat mimics Australia's arid escarpments and rocky ridgelines — with minimal foliage, open spaces, and high thermal gradients.
Ideal Species: Central Netted Dragons (Ctenophorus nuchalis), Thick-tailed Geckos (Underwoodisaurus milii), Wolf Spiders (Lycosa spp.)

A semi-aquatic slice of overgrown jungle, teeming with floating plants, tangled driftwood, and a shallow water table. This setup simulates the transition between land and freshwater — ideal for amphibians and aquatic reptiles that blur the boundaries of both.
Ideal Species: Terrestrial Frogs, Turtles (Emydura sp.), Freshwater Crabs (Austrothelphusa spp.)

An authentic representation of an Australian bushwalk. Characterised by dry leaf litter, eucalyptus-style logs, native grasses, and scattered tree stumps — this ecosystem captures the essence of cicada-filled afternoons and sun-dappled undergrowth.
Ideal Species: Shingleback (Tiliqua rugosa), Marbled Velvet Geckos (Oedura marmorata), Spiny Ants (Polyrhachis spp.), Children's python (Antaresia childreni)

A rocky, fern-laden forest floor that thrives in the zone between dry woodlands and rainforests. With filtered light, damp soil, and scattered leaf litter, this biome provides a cool and calm refuge for ground dwellers.
Ideal Species: Southern Angle-headed Dragons (Lophosaurus spinipes), Rough Forest Snails (Austrorhytida spp.), Nursery Frogs (Cophixalus spp.), Most Carpet Pythons (Morelia spilota)

A windswept red-earth environment scattered with large rocks, thin driftwood, and sparse, drought-hardy plants. This ecosystem mimics Australia’s central deserts — minimal, radiant, and built for burrowing or heat-loving species.
Ideal Species: Broad-banded Sand-swimmer (Eremiascincus richardsonii), Central Bearded Dragon (Pogona vitticeps), Flinders Range Scorpion (Urodacus elongatus)
ALL ecosystems will be adjusted to suit your specific species

Fill out the quote form above with your tank size, ecosystem preference, and species. A designated enclosure designer will contact you within 24 hours to confirm your selections, discuss species-specific requirements, go through any add-ons, and take a 60% deposit to begin the build. Every custom enclosure is a 1-of-1.
Most builds take approximately one month from deposit to completion, though this may vary with complexity and current order volume. Your designer will give you a firm timeline during the initial consultation. We'll keep you updated throughout.
Yes, we offer cabinet conversions starting from ~$3,000. If you have a cabinet or existing enclosure you'd like transformed into a bioactive ecosystem, note this in your quote form or contact us directly at info@biotastudio.com.au.
Use the ecosystem guide on this page as a starting point — each ecosystem lists its ideal species. If you're unsure, tell us your species in the quote form and your designer will recommend the right biome. Every ecosystem is adjusted to suit your specific animal regardless of which you select.
Add-ons range from a simple integrated pond (+$350) to the full Simulated Weather Pack (+$1,800) which includes raindrops, misting, fog, ventilation, lighting, and double plants. Whether they're worth it depends on your species — high-humidity tropical animals like tree frogs benefit enormously from automated misting and fog; arid desert species generally don't need them. Your designer will advise what's genuinely useful for your setup rather than upselling you on things you don't need.
Yes. We design and construct custom bioactive enclosures for zoos, wildlife sanctuaries, museums, schools, and educational institutions across Australia. For institutional enquiries, contact us directly at info@biotastudio.com.au rather than using the quote form.
A minimum 60% deposit is required to begin your build. Please review our Refund Policy for full details on deposit refunds before placing your order.
We have a gallery of past builds on this page. You're also welcome to visit our Surry Hills store to see enclosures in person — we often have display builds available to view. Contact us before visiting to confirm what's currently on show.
